South Carolina and Kings Moutain - March 17 and 18, 2015
We finally drove out of the state of North Carolina. Yeah!!!
I did not think that another state existed below North Carolina.
We have been on the road since January and we have just been to Virginia and North Carolina.
It finally feels like we are really on this adventure now.
We took off from the RV dealer and headed SOUTH.
We entered South Carolina only to get off on our exit and enter North Carolina again and then a few miles down the road enter South Carolina again. Weird.
We were headed to Kings Mountain State Park which is in the middle of Kings Mountain National Park.
We stopped off at the visitors center and picked up the Junior Ranger program books. We did a few things in the visitor center and decided to come back the next day to finish the walking tour.
We set up camp at Kings Mountain State Park and had a wonderful evening playing at their playground and exploring the park. It was a very rugged campground but very quiet and relaxing.
We woke up the next day and went to the national park again and learned the history of the military battle that took place there. Think revolutionary war.
I learned so much and had a wonderful time walking in the actual footsteps of the men who fought for our independence. It was very sobering and made us very grateful for the men who fought in that war.
The kids were actually excited to learn new things and it surprised me. I though that they would complain but they did not and were actually eager to learn more. The plan was to be done by lunch and eat lunch in the car on our way to Cowpens which is another revolutionary war battlefield not too far from Kings Mountain.
