Charlotte Motorspeedway

I am going backwards people trying to go in order of when things happened. This post is from when we had not even left NC yet. We were trying to get our camper worked on and spent some time in Concord and Charlotte.

I have always  wanted to go and watch the cars race at a NASCAR race. My dad used to go to races when he was younger. I remember this old, beat up, orange Daytona 500 shirt he had from when he went. He said it was so loud. I never could understand the fascination with watches over 40 cars going around and around in circles. I did, though, want to see them go round a least one time in my life. I guess it was one of those things on my bucket list.
Every time we have stayed at Tom Johnson Campground I would always say how cool it would be to see them at least once. On the first day we were at the campground last week we woke up to the sound of cars at the speedway. All day long we kept hearing them. It was SO LOUD! Since our camper could not be looked at that day we were trying to decide what to do. We did some laundry and ran out of quarters. We went into the office to get more and finally decided to ask someone what was going on at the speedway. She called it a test and tune. It was kind of a practice run for the cars to test their engines and tires. I told her how I had always wanted to go see them race. She informed us that it was free to go and watch. Guess what we did next.
The kids were reluctant to go but once we got over to the speedway and they saw the cars, they were hooked. It is an awesome experience but we did not stay long. We had brought no ear protection with us and it was so loud that we were worried for the ears of the little ones. We did stay about 20 minutes and got see about 10 different cars race around. The lady in the gift shop explained to us that during a race there are over 40 cars running. We only saw 5 at one time and we had to leave because it was so loud.
I did get to check this one thing of my bucket list. Not a real race but I got to experience a little taste of what one must feel like.
