Cowpens - March 18, 2015

After we finished at Kings Mountain we headed to Cowpens National Battlefield.
This was a completely different type of battle but the same war.
Kings Mountain was where the Americans fought and hid in the forest and surrounded the British where they were on top of a hill.
Cowpens was fought on an open field with both sides using military strategy to try and win. The Americans had a great military strategy and ended up winning the battle. It helped that they were out for revenge against a British soldier who recently had won a battle and had not allowed the Americans to surrender but killed them all. The Americans wanted to capture him. He ended up escaping the battle by running away in the heat of the battle.
The kids had a great time learning about military strategy of this battle and the huge difference between Kings Mountain and Cowpens.
Carl, being the military man he is, was fascinated with the two national parks we visited today.
The kids earned another Junior Ranger badge.

A rare sighting of Alex actually doing the Junior Ranger Program
