January 2, 2017 - Impossible Things

I have been thinking about a question I read yesterday.
My mom's pastor put an insert into their bulletins a few years ago. I have used it during the month of January for the past few years.

It is actually 31 questions so I normally try to do one question a day for the month.
Question 2 is a very thought provoking one.
What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
Uh????
It took me a minute and then the answer popped right into my head.
Before I tell you my answer I want to share a story about when my mom answered this question at the beginning of the year a few years ago.
I thought she was crazy and so did a lot of other people.
My dad has been sick for almost 20 years. He got sick right around the that I got married. It has been a hard road because his illness is tied to a disability from his military service. Fighting for benefits with the Veteran's Administration is a long, drawn out process that takes years. My dad already had some disability but he needed more as he is not able to work at all because of it. My mom decided that she was going to pray that my dad would get 100% disability. That is a huge deal and very hard to get. She filed all the paperwork and began praying.
My mom prayed hard believing with all her heart that the Lord would answer this seemingly impossible prayer.
He did. My dad was able to get 100% disability which was a huge relief for both of my parents. It was amazing to see the Lord work and bring about this miracle. People who have dealt with VA were astonished at how fast my dad was able to get an answer. It was truly a God thing.
I have always remembered that story.
The imposible thing for me this year involves one of my children. This child is close to not being a child anymore. He has some learning issues that have made him fall drastically behind in school. I have worked very hard to catch him up but he has no motivation. He sees no way to catch up so he has given up. Everything.
He is so gifted in the area of art and writing and is a very creative person. He does not learn in a typical way so it is very hard to find a program he can use. He is just defeated right now. I have tried to encourage him but he is lost.
My impossible thing this year is for the Lord to really get a hold of his heart and for him to truly start a growing relationship with Christ. He has such a sweet spirit and so creative. I have been spending time with him on Thursdays before his art class. We go out to lunch and I read his book. It is very good. I mean, very, very good. Publishable good.
He has really opened up in that book and it is something that we can talk about. I know that the Lord can do great things through him. I cannot wait to see what is in store for this child of mine. My prayer is for the Lord to do mighty things this year in his life. That seems impossible where he is right now. God is a god of impossibles so I look forward to seeing God work in this child's life.

I read a quote by Corrie ten Boom today. Other than George Muller, she is my favorite Christian hero.  She wrote, "Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."
As much as I love this child of mine, God loves him so much more and wants to work in his life. That is my prayer for this child. For him to enjoy being in the presence of the Lord.
I have been doing a monthly scripture writing plan for a while now. It just worked out that today's verse was very appropriate for this question and this precious child of mine.

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”
25 The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
    to the soul who seeks him.
26 It is good that one should wait quietly
    for the salvation of the Lord.
Lamentations 3:22-26
