Witness to A Miracle
This post is not the one I had originally planned. We have had an interesting two weeks here at the Trautman household. We got a contract on our house (which I will write about later) and bought a new camper (more information and pictures on that later too). Things are falling into place for us to really begin our journey in January. What I want to write about today is something that happened this morning and has rocked me to the core and proves that God still does miracles.
I have seen times in my life where God did something amazing. Most Christians can point to a time where they saw God working in an answer to a prayer or in some mighty way. I can recall many times whether it is four women waking up in the middle of the night to pray for a soldier under fire at that moment in time or a prayer for an anxious child waiting for an iv to be calm that was answered immediately. God is good all the time and we often take that for granted. We do not know all the ways that he is protecting us and working things out for our good. I am sure we can all recall times where we were delayed in the car only to discover an accident that you would have been a part of if you had been on time. We see God in those times. He loves us and protects us.
I can honestly say though that I have never been witness to a full fledged miracle.
Until this morning.
Let me just say that when I told my mom what happened all she kept saying was "Wow" over and over.
I truly do not think I have wrapped my head around it all yet.
It is incredible.
Carl and I just keep looking at each other and asking how what we witnessed could be possible.
It isn't without the power of God.
Do I have you interested yet?
Let me just say that yesterday we had to have had an angel traveling with us.
Once we got a contract on the house we started looking for a travel trailer. We could not find anything in our area but we did find a dealer in Concord that had a few things. We drove down last Thursday to look at them. They did have a few that seemed okay but as soon as the kids took a look we decided that we needed more space even if we had to spend a little bit more money. After a lunch break we went back to the dealer and the salesperson said he had one thing left for us to look at. We fell in love. It had everything we were looking for. We put a down payment on it and planned to pick it up yesterday.
We drove back down yesterday and spent over 4 hours going through the trailer with the service people learning how everything works and dealing with the financing. We then had to purchase some things in their store that are necessary when living in a travel trailer (sewer hoses, toilet cleaner, etc.). Once we were done in the store that service guy came out and told we were all hooked up and ready to go. They did everything in hitching up the vehicle because they wanted to make sure that we had all the necessary parts to travel safely. They handed us the keys and after taking pictures of the trailer and van (which now are almost 60 feet long) and a trip back to adjust the breaks, we were on the way.
We stopped at Cracker Barrel simply because that was the only place around that had a parking lot that we would fit in. By the way, our whole rig would not fit in their RV spaces. We stuck out both ends. I found that comical. We then got on the road. It was rainy, windy, and dark. It was nerve racking as this was the first time Carl has really driven anything that big. We made it to my mom's house with no problems and then back to our house. We did not feel like getting the trailer in the driveway in the dark and in the rain. We just pulled in front of the house and went inside to bed.
We woke up this morning with the plan to back the trailer in the driveway and go to drop off the van to get the oil changed. It was actually easier than we thought getting the trailer in the driveway. We had no problems and got everything unhooked. I got in the car to follow Carl to the mechanics.
This is where the day took a miraculous turn or at least we discovered that a miracle had been happening all along.
Carl went behind that van to remove the huge hitch from the van. I saw him motion to me and he had a weird expression on his face. It was raining and cold and I really did not want to get out of the warm car. He kept motioning me over and when I asked why he just said I had to see something. I reluctantly walked over and looked at the hitch. It looked normal to me. Then Carl did something that made me absolutely speechless and almost go into shock. He slid the hitch right out. I looked at him and asked where the pin was. For those of you who are not camper pulling people, when you are pulling a trailer you need a vehicle with a receiver. The hitch goes into the receiver and then the next step is to put in a hitch pin to keep the hitch attached to the receiver. It is a very important step. We had driven almost 200 miles in the wind, rain, and dark with NO HITCH PIN in the receiver.
We thought maybe we had just lost the pin somewhere along the road. We started looking around but could not find it. Then we started looking at the hitch itself. It is very heavy duty capable of hauling 10,000 pounds. Our new trailer is below 7000 dry (that means with no cargo in it). When we examined the hitch we found it had cracked almost all the way through. It is an absolute miracle. We took lots of pictures yesterday and luckily Carl took a picture of the hitch assembly while we were still parked at the dealer. In the picture you can see very clearly that there is NO PIN. It is as plain as day. NO PIN!!!!!! We drove all that way with just the weight distribution bars and the chains holding our 7000 pound trailer to our van.
It makes me cry when I start to think of all the possible things that could have gone wrong yesterday. We could have been in a very bad accident where other people could have been hurt. Any number of things could have gone wrong
.
It is an absolute miracle.
Like the not humanly possible kind of miracle.
Like the kind of miracle that leaves you speechless or saying "Wow" over and over again.
The Lord provided protection for us all day yesterday and I have been continually thanking God for that all day long. It makes this adventure that much more solidified in my mind. God has continued to open doors for us through this whole process.
We are continually trusting him through this whole thing. Please pray that I will not get discouraged and continue to trust him for everything. Pray that the deal with our potential buyers will go through without a hitch (no pun intended).
What happened today just proves that we are doing what the Lord wants us to. We are getting excited and also very nervous as this is a complete change of lifestyle. It is goes against everything we have ever done and what the world says to do. We have never been ones to go with the flow and have always been a little different. We are just excited to follow the Lord in this new adventure and he has already shown himself mighty.
He has truly shown himself in our lives and this is one more part of the adventure that can bring people to him. There is no other explanation for what happened today other than God. As soon as we discovered the problem Carl said that we had to have had an angel riding with us yesterday holding the hitch in.
We praise the Lord for his physical protection yesterday. We also thank him for protecting our vehicles. The only thing damaged was the actual hitch. We called the dealer and they did not believe us. They did say that they would pay for a new hitch for us and send it to us. I feel like driving back down there, not to make any problems for them, but to show them what a miracle happened yesterday and that we serve an AWESOME GOD!!!!!!! We have picture to prove our story and the damaged hitch. ALL PRAISE AND GLORY GOES TO OUR GOD!!!!!!
I will try to post pictures of the damaged hitch and the picture taken at the dealer that showed no pin. They are on Carl's phone and he is away doing some military duty this week.
