Discovery Place!!!!!

Image
W e went to Discovery Place in Charlotte one day while we were at the Tom Johnson Campground in Concord. We figured that since the trailer was being worked on and we could not leave town, we might as well have fun. We are members of the Museum of Life and Science which has reciprocal museums that participate. We looked it up and found that Discovery Place was on the list. We all got in free and ended up being a great day. Here are some pictures of the day. Alex refused to get his picture taken. Making "vulture vomit" Caleb and Tirzah - too cute We found a snake! Are you guys surprised? Notice we are the only ones around. Barrage of Updates

We have had an exciting last few weeks. I really have not been ignoring my blog. I have been blogging but we have been in campgrounds where I have had no internet service or spotty service. We have been to Concord, Falls Lake, and Fort Fisher, and now back to Falls Lake. We have had many adventures so far. I am trying to go back and post the blog posts in order so be patient with me as there will be a few posts loaded in a short amount of time. Please go and read them all as we made some great discoveries. Carl has army duty this weekend so I have been spending my days, not evenings, at my moms house. She has internet service so I am loading the posts as quickly as I can.  Hopefully I will get used to where I can have internet and post on a more consistent basis. I have already learned so much on this trip. It has been a time of soul searching and teaching my children to do the same. We have had some issues with  behavior and attitudes but we are intent on working on t...

Foreign gods and the Ocean

Image
Today was the first day back to school for our kids in quite a while. With the move and everything, school has been put on the back burner. My kids thought it was great until I informed them that we would be doing school all summer to make up for the missed school. They were not as pleased then. The older ones are now wishing that they had done some school work on their own. I knew it was going to be a trying day. Anytime you start a new routine, it takes time to get into a groove. I woke up early and immediately reached for my Bible. I began to read my daily chapters. I am reading through the Bible in 90 days and I am in Joshua and Judges. It sometimes seems like these early books of the Old Testament can be boring but if we pray for God to reveal things to us in scripture, He will answer that prayer. Today my nugget was all about foreign gods and I intentionally left the “g” and a lowercase letter. There is only one God that deserves to have the capital “G” and that is our Holy God. ...

Surprise Finds

Image
In the midst of the chaos last week with the trailer, we made two surprise discoveries at the campground. The first day we had to stay at the campground we had a very late morning as Carl made eggs and bacon and biscuits. It was very delicious but is a time consuming meal to fix for 10 people. Two packs of bacon fried up on the teeny tiny trailer stovetop takes a while. The biscuits had to be cooked in two rounds in the tiny oven. It was all worth it though. While breakfast clean up was going on I sent the kids outside to explore. We basically had the campground all to ourselves. Not too many people go camping in the dead of winter. Especially when there is freezing rain in the forecast. In Concord we were outside of the winter storm warning so we just had rain. The kids had a blast running around the empty campground getting muddy. William made the first surprise discovery. He looked up in a tree and saw an interesting knot. It looked like it had something sticking up out...

Unexpeccted Stay

Image
Carl got back from Wisconsin on Sunday. He was actually able to get an earlier flight so he got home around 10:00 instead of his flight landing at midnight. Yeah for us. It was great to have him home. The plan was to wake up early Monday and get on the road. We called early that morning to see if the trailer was ready. To our dismay, we found out that it was not. They had just started working on it. We were not happy at all. They discovered that problem was a lot bigger than they anticipated. They thought they were just going to have to adjust the cables. When they got into it they found out that a whole weld had come lose. They had to completely take apart the slide and do some major work and put bracket and welds. They also found the seals on one of the windows was not right. They had to take the window off and put it back in correctly. They also took down the cabinets and fixed the hole in the wall. All of this damage was caused by the precious owners who traded it in without the de...
